I highly recommend Roots Resort for a relaxing and comfortable stay close to Entebbe and Kampala. The grounds are beautiful: tucked in the hills outside Entebbe and nestled in a unique swampy area, herons, other birds and monkeys are constant visitors. The resort makes a perfect get-away from bustling Kampala. With modern conveniences like fast internet, quality lighting, and solar nightlights, the resort is perfect for a writing retreat or to spend a few days getting some work done while still enjoying what Uganda has to offer. It is also a perfect place to bring a group of students or interns. It is very close to the airport, and is very convenient for an early entrance to the country or a late departure. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive, and will make sure that you have what you need. The food is fresh and good and there is a really nice and largely-stocked bar. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and cute; showers have hot water; and mosquito nets are nicely draped over the beds. They are in the process of growing a farm, and with more than 70 chickens, two large fish ponds, and fresh fruit trees onsite, the resort will be largely sustainable. I highly recommend a stop at Roots Resort and cannot wait for my next visit.
A great resort perfect for a few days away. Amazing birds (the local birding group toured while I was there). The Mizizi troupe’s traditional music and dancing is FANTASTIC every Saturday – a must see.
Stayed February 2016, traveled with family
